Excellence Awards

Each year NZFDC presents an award for each year level of school, from primary through to the end of secondary school. These awards recognise the greatest achievement across the country, either academically or as part of the social environment within education, of a deaf or hard of hearing student.

We would like to acknowledge the extra hard work and dedication that children with a hearing loss put into school to merely keep up with their peers, and the amazing effort it takes to excel.

The awards are:

  • Years 1 - 8 The New Zealand Federation for Deaf Children Medal
  • The Year 9  Bensley Cup and $100.00
  • The Year 10 Zis Lurajud Cup and $100.00
  • The Year 11 Makere Mason Trophy and $100.00
  • The Year 12 Margaret Cooper Trophy and $100.00
  • The Year 13 Devine Family Cup and $250.00
  • And the Norma Taylor Memorial Trophy and $500.00

This award honours Norma's memory and recognises the highest achievement nationally of a deaf or hard of hearing student who has consistently achieved recognition within their school over five years at secondary level.

The nominations are open each year from 1st August and close on the last day of School Term 3 (Friday 23 September). NZFDC endeavours to co-ordinate the presentation of these awards with the student's end of year School Award Assembly.
